Inspiring Women

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated world-wide.  It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements, regardless of any differences - - whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, or political.

Since 2002, Kern County has honored outstanding international women of our community at IWD award dinners.

The local event is planned by a consortium of representatives from the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, CSUB, BC, and organizations serving immigrants and naturalized citizens.

This year's IWD award dinner will be celebrated at the Seven Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield on March 8, 2011.

Foreign-born women who have made significant contributions to our region in the following categories will be honored:  Arts/Entertainment, Business/Finance, Community Service, Education, Health Services, Law/Government, and Sciences.

The ideal nominee makes important contributions within her own profession, but is also service-oriented and has stepped forward to contribute to the community at large.  Nomination deadline is January 24, 2011.

Do you know an inspiring woman?  Honor her ~ Nominate her!
